With the summer vacation starting later in the month, you might end up leaving the reading habit completely, which you should not do. You should try to learn something new every day by reading educational magazines and newspapers. However, if you are allowed to spend some time on the internet, then www.futurity.org is the site for you to read STEM related news and researches taking place every day.

Futurity is designed to showcase the latest research discoveries in science, engineering, the environment, health, etc., taking place at more than 35 world’s top universities from the US and Canada, including Stanford, Boston University and several more. The idea behind the site was to encourage interaction among these top universities and make a direct link between their latest news and discoveries for people around the world to read.

According to one of the cofounders of the site, “It’s not often you see high-powered universities working together in such a collaborative way, that fact alone indicates the project’s significance. Universities are the world’s laboratories. They host the brightest minds working to answer some of today’s most urgent questions. The breadth and caliber — and the collective force — of the research featured on Futurity is truly extraordinary,” said Schoenfeld.

The homepage is very interactive, with cool pictures and a neat layout and, thankfully, with no advertisements. There are four main categories on top, such as “Science and technology”, “Health”, “Culture” and “Environment”. All these categories are self-explanatory so I will not go into the details. But the fact that these categories contain not the typical news items is awesome.

All these categories are filled with researches, latest discoveries, inventions, etc., though the words ‘research’ and ‘discoveries’ might bring you dull and boring images of text to mind. But that is not the case here and the site is not what you might think it is, the text present in the categories is short and quite interesting.

So kids, enjoy the site built by these mega universities and be informed by the scientists and researchers about the latest in the world of science.

For the budding scientists and STEM geeks, the site is a wonder place to visit: www.futurity.org
