KOHAT: The police foiled attempts of smuggling hashish and heroin and arrested five alleged carriers here on Friday.

According to details, the officials of Mohammad Riaz Shaheed police station seized two kilogrammes of heroin and arrested Mohammad Tahir and Obaid of Meri Colony and put them behind bars.

The Jarma police stopped a suspicious vehicle at Muslimabad check post. Upon checking, they recovered more than four kilogrammes of hashish hidden in its secret cavities. The alleged smugglers belonging to Khyber area, identified as Mohammad Kashif and Ijazul Haq, were taken to the police station.

Similarly, the Bilitang police during checking of vehicles on Rawalpindi Highway recovered one kilogramme of hashish from one Sardar Niaz, a resident of Rahimyar Khan. The police registered separate cases and have started investigations.

PRICE CHECK: The administration of Hangu district supervised the auction of vegetable and fruit in the wholesale market after receiving complaints that the prices are being raised artificially through the middlemen by binding the other ring bidders not to submit bids against them.

Meanwhile, additional deputy commissioner, Kohat, Shah Nawaz Naveed and additional assistant commissioner Sahibazada Samiullah during visit of sasta bazaar fixed the price of the flour bag by Rs60 less than the market.

Deputy commissioner Mohammad Tayyab Abdullah visited the market along with the food controller in the wee hours on Friday and after noting discrepancies in the auction ordered sale to retailers on government fixed rates.

The wholesale dealers allegedly formed a ring of bidders and agreed to give a lot to one of their members who later distributed the share among other members. He warned the wholesale dealers that action would be taken against those found involved in any illegal practice.
