SWABI: The police on Sunday claimed to have arrested eight facilitators of terrorists during the strike and search operation conducted in various parts of Chota Lahor tehsil here.
Officials said the pre-dawn operation was conducted in Jalsai, Jalbai, Manki, Beka, Nabi and surrounding areas of the tehsil headquarters.
Chota Lahor DSP Sajjad Hussain said lady constables and Counter-Terrorism Department officials and staff of different police stations participated in the operation.
He said about 100 houses were searched and over 40 suspected people arrested.
When contacted, a police official, who participated in the operation, said names of the facilitators could not be disclosed at present and that they had been shifted to an unknown location for interrogation. Jihad Khan, SHO Tordher police station, said they did not face any resistance from those arrested.
DRUG TRAFFICKERS ARRESTED: The police arrested three persons and recovered over 10kg charas from them on Sunday.
Two drug pushers were arrested at Saheed Baba checkpost. The smugglers were on way from Peshawar to Punjab in a car.
The police recovered 6kg contraband from its secret sections. They were named Irfan Khan and Imran Khan, belonging to Bara tehsil of Khyber tribal district. A case was registered against them in Topi city police station.
The Kalu Khan police recovered 4kg charas from Awais Khan of Bachai village during a raid on his house.
RIVAL GROUPS CLASH: Two groups exchanged heavy fire on Sunday in Nazarkhel area of Swabi city. The police reached the spot immediately and arrested the groups’ leaders and one person in injured condition.
ARRESTED: The police arrested a watchman of the Chota Lahor basic health unit and recovered valuables he had stolen from the health centre the other day.
They made the arrest after district health officer Dr Mohammad Niaz got registered an FIR in Chorta Lahor city police station, stating the watchman identified as Nasir Khan took away a motorcycle, five stabilisers, two fans, a compressor and a computer monitor.
The police raided the watchman’s house, but it was locked, and later arrested from the outskirts of the city and recovered the stolen things.
