Imad proud of Pakistan's efforts against England

All-rounder Imad Wasim believes Pakistan have gained much from their one-day international series against World Cup hosts England despite having yet to win a match.
England head into Friday's fourth ODI in Nottingham 2-0 up with two to play after a no result washout at The Oval was followed by 12-run and six-wicket wins at Southampton and Bristol respectively.
Pakistan, however, have made England work hard for those wins, with all four completed innings in the series so far topping 350 runs.
“If you take some positives, we have played really well in both games,” Imad said on Thursday.
“Credit to England. They have batted really well, it's fine margins,” added Imad, who insisted the tourists' morale was still intact despite their recent losses.
"I think the team is confident. We're going to put up a good fight again. Yes, they (England) are (tough to bowl at), that's why they are the number one (ODI) team in the world. But we take pride in our bowling as well and we have some plans, hopefully we can execute them next time.”
Trent Bridge has a deserved reputation as a batsman-friendly ground, with England posting the highest two ODI totals in history in Nottingham — 481 for six and 444 for three.
“White-ball cricket is not a bowler's game but credit to the groundsmen and the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board), the wickets they are preparing are unbelievable... It's like a batting paradise,” said left-arm spinner Imad.
“It's going to be a belter for both teams. You have to find a way to contain and try to take wickets.“

Imad is right. So far, Pakistan has played really well. But, England with home ground advantage have balanced all the commendable efforts of Pakistan batting. It had been almost anybody's game in the two matches, with slight tilt to English side.

Imad Wasim cannot turn the ball an inch, has no batting technique and a below average fielder. Yet he is an automatic selection in the team. Then we wonder why we are losing ODIs so frequently?

Unfortunately Imad's comments are no more than an effort to boost morale of the team. The expectations and standards of Pakistan team have gone so low that we are even when we lose the games with considerable margins like in the 3rd ODI, where England won by 6 wickets and with almost 5 overs to spare. Yes, by Pakistani standards and expectations, scoring more than 300 runs in an ODI is already a huge achievement worthy of celebration but by international standards these scores are no more winning scores. Our bowling especially has become miserably weak neither able to take wickets nor restrict runs. Under the current scenario, Pakistan has no chance of beating any of the top four teams let alone England which is the number one ODI team.

Playing well isn't going to be an acceptable level in the actual tournament. Much more is required in order to stand out amongst teams like India, Australia and South Africa. Fans should be prepared to see average performances by this Pakistani team with not too many positives coming out of each game. And that is a very considered opinion of this scribe.

Wrong. Had he or his team played well, they would have won both the games. Plain and simple. In fact, In all sports, the matrix of bad or better play is attributed only to winning or losing. There are no "if's" and "thens." Either you win if you play well or lose, if you don't.

Good to see Pakistani batsmen scoring as they did against Australia by scoring 5 or 6 centuries and already scored 2 in England but it means noting if you don't win. Team will get another big opportunity in WC and as long as they win there people will forget these ODI results otherwise you know Pakistanis.

@Sab Se Pehle Pakistan, You might want to add that he is also unfit with a knee problem for quite some time. In the Champions trophy he was ' sussed out' and smashed all over the park.He got out in both odis in this series in an identical manner by being late on the pull shots. The team will require tinkering as it will be difficult to slot him and Shadab together.Shadab is a wicket taker who actually turns the ball and a fantastic fielder, particularly at point.The major problem is that besides shadab and Hasan Ali, we dont really have any wicket taking bowlers. The remaining two odis might shed light on hasnain but certainly Junaid and Afridi are averahe bowlers at best.Malik needs to be thrown out and Hafeez is only good if he can bowl.

Played well?? Looked at the margin of victory and the runs England compiled. Pakistani team doesnt look to be the favourites for the world cup anymore. The struggling departmebt seems to be the bowling where the seamers cannot swing the ball unlike the england seamers. This will also be the main point of all teams playing in worldcup.

Agree Pakistan has batted well scoring over 350 runs, however, is that not expected in these dead pitches? Pakistan bowling has been sad mainly due to poor selection mainly driven by politics and nepotism. Wahab Riaz and another specialist spinner should be included in the word cup team. PCB please please please talk to the chief selector/coach/captain and include Wahab Riaz and maybe Umar khan in the team. Please note that after the CT 2017 Pakistan has lost over 85% of the ODI matches against strong teams (India, England, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa). Scoring over 350 runs is positive, however, losing a matche with that score is negative.

Both opners and Asif have performed well but all others are far from what is needed from them on these wickets. Abid Ali must be played in the coming matches. The choice should be made between Shoib Malik and Asif Ali while Abid should be retained in the squad. On the bowling side, Pakistan still can make a wise choice and exchange Shaheen Shah with Wahab Riaz who has been the best Pakistani bowler on such batting wickets for a year. Amir should replace Fahim Ashraf. On such wickets, we need to play Wahab, hasnain and Amir.

Pakistan should make 3 changes to the squad. Wahab for Shahin Shah, Amir for Fahim Ashraf and Asif Ali for Shoaib Malik. Both Wahab and Amir can bat too.

And shall be for another 200 years whether Pakistan wins or loses or cannot defend 350 or 400. They were, are and shall be the best. That is what Pakistanis have believed for decades and no one can change it.

@Seedoo, so you mean to say that Pakistan’s bowling attack which Pakistanis believe to be the best in the world for the last 60-70 years is good only when the wicket suits them and is bowler friendly? In good batting conditions it has no mettle? The art is to bowl and defend and take wickets on a flat surface specially for a so called best bowling attack in the world.
