SUKKUR, July 17: Floodwater from Punjab would start reaching the Guddu Barrage on Monday which would again increase the water level at the barrage that had started receding.

According to irrigation officials, the water flow at upstream Guddu Barrage was 368,348 cusecs and 334,217 cusecs at downstream on Sunday evening, at Sukkur Barrage upstream, the flow was 349,043 cusecs and 289,808 cusecs at downstream and at Kotri Barrage upstream, the flow was 175,330 cusecs and 136,923 cusecs at downstream.

DADU: There was a medium flood in the Indus River at downstream Sukkur Barrage on Sunday which was developing pressure on the Dadu-Moro bridge.

Hundreds of acres of land in the kutcha area in Mehar, Faridabad, Pat Sharif, Dadu, Sehwan, Sann and Manjhand and pathways to 40 villages have been submerged by floodwater. Haji Mooso Lund, Qalib Ali Jatoi, Sono Khan, Baloch Khan, Najeeb Korejo, Allah Jurio Jatoi, Ali Khan Chandio and Hassan Machhi are the worst affected villages.

The in-charge of the irrigation control of southern division, Dadu, Ayaz Ahmad, told Dawn that a medium flow of water was crossing the Dadu-Moro bridge.

He said the water level of the Manchhar Lake was 106.7RL and the lake was receiving water from the Indus River through the Danistar Canal and the Aral Wah due to the rise in the water level of the river.

The assistant engineer, flood protective bund, Habibullah Kabooro, said the Manchhar Lake was receiving 1,200 cusecs of water through the Aral Wah and 550 cusecs of water through the Danistar Canal on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Jamshoro DCO issued notices to residents of 30 villages in Sann, Manjhand and Unnarpur areas to vacate their houses because the water level in the river was rising.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: The water flow in the Indus River in the district was 445,000 cusecs.

This was stated by the executive engineer, irrigation, Jam Mitha Khan, while talking to journalists.

He said about 70 per cent of the kutcha area had been inundated. He said the situation at protective bunds was satisfactory.

He said the water level would start receding tomorrow but it would again rise after 10 days because water from Taunsa, Muzaffargarh and Kot Addu, where the level had increased to 522,000 cusecs of water, would reach here.

Hyderabad Bureau: The executive engineer, Naseer irrigation division, here on Saturday announced that a water rotation programme had become inevitable due to silt problem in the Naseer Branch and absence of rains.

He said the rotation programme would remain enforced from July 17 to July 25.

Channels that have been closed include the Nagnah Distributary, Gharib Distributary, Tando Soomro-II Distributary, Shaikh Moosa Minor, Landhi-I Minor, outlets of the Naseer Branch from RD-91 to RD-354, Tando Ghulam Ali Distributary, Chuch Minor, Bijar Minor, Basran-I Minor, Sorhadi Minor, Wagherji Distributary, Sangi Minor, Jarkas Distributary and the Chango Minor.
