SWABI: Tailors here across the district have been charging customers at will for sewing suits for the upcoming Eid with no official check on them.

It was noted during an interaction with the people in urban areas that majority of the tailors of city areas had closed their shops and moved to their homes, creating an impression that they were overburdened with work and could not take more orders.

The tailors are charging from Rs600 to Rs700 for sewing a suit, but some have even hiked the rate to Rs800 per suit for Eid.

Liaquat Ali, a resident of Swabi city, said that the district administration should fix the rates for the tailors so as to protect the people’s interests. However, the tailors told this scribe on condition of anonymity that they were charging Rs700 to Rs 800 per suit for Eid. Insiders said that junior tailors who worked with the prominent tailors got only Rs200 for sewing a suit and the remaining Rs500 or so went into the pocket of boss.

“My head tailor pays me Rs190 per suit and I usually sew three suits daily,” said a junior tailor on condition of anonymity.

SALARY PAYMENT: The workers of Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate have demanded payment of their salary for the current month on May 28 in view of Eidul Fitr.

The provincial government has also announced that all public sector employees would get the salary on May 28.

The workers at Gadoon estate told this scribe that various industrial units did not operate round the clock and conducted work according to the demands. They said that none of such units paid salaries to the workers in time.
