CONTRABAND SEIZED: The police on Monday arrested a man belonging to Peshawar with heroin and charas he was trying to smuggle to Islamabad, officials said.

Jihad Khan, SHO Tordher police station, said a car was signalled to stop on Swabi-Jehangira Road, but the driver tried to speed away. He said the cops chased the car, forcing the inmate named Muneer Masih to surrender.

He said the police recovered three kilogrammes of charas and two kilogrammes of heroin from the car, adding a case was registered against the arrested smuggler, who wanted to smuggle the contraband to Islamabad.

IFTAR DASTARKHWAN: The Iftar Dastarkhwans opened in the district are attracting large number of poor people.

The initiative was launched by National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar on humanitarian basis to serve the poor people in the fasting month, said officials.

However, they said rush of people had forced the organisers to allow only the most deserving people to have Iftar-dinner.

They said at the launch it was decided that 500 people would be offered Iftar-dinner daily at each Dastarkhwan.

PRICE HIKE ASSAILED: Shiraz Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Swabi district president, said on Monday that survival of the poor had become difficult due to increasing prices of commodities.

Talking to mediapersons, he said the people had now realised that they had made a big mistake by supporting Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in the elections.

He said the prevailing circumstances had forced the opposition parties to gather on one platform to launch a campaign against the government after Eid.
