KOHAT: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Tuesday discarded 5,000 litres of fake and misbranded cold drinks as part of Ramazan exercise to provide pure food items to the people.
The authority also sealed six outlets, including two bakeries and a grocery shop, for selling expired products and banned items.
Talking to mediapersons, the authority’s deputy director operations Kamran Khan said the two bakeries were sealed due to presence of over 100 expired cold drinks, two dozen packets of pops and unhygienic cakes.

He added that the grocery shop was sealed for selling China salt, which had been banned by the Supreme Court due to its harmful effects on human health.
Kamran Khan said seizure of adulterated milk with high fat levels and water regularly by imposing heavy fines on the tanker owners had yielded very promising results.
He said a tanker carrying 15,000 litres of milk to Peshawar was inspected by the authority’s team in the wee hours of Tuesday and no harmful chemicals were traced, while the fat level and water adulteration was found according to the authority’s standards, so the vehicle was let go without any further action.
