Multan wears new look after beautification

MULTAN: The city wears a colourful look after lights have been installed at various buildings and roads of the city.

Municipal Corporation Chief Executive Officer Malik Iqbal Farid said the government was focusing on the beautification of the city and soon it would be a clean city too.

He said that non-functional lights of Chowk Clock Tower, Damdama and city’s important roads were made functional in the first phase and now streetlights were being made functional in the second phase.

He said the Multan commissioner had directed them to decorate entry and exit points of the city to promote tourism and highlight the historical cultural importance of the city while encroachments around the clock tower building have also been removed as per the direction of the commissioner.

He said that historic Clock Tower would be restored by making it a model area.

He said that wall-chalking on all roads of the city and flyovers was being removed and in first phase the staff of municipal corporation had removed posters and banners after city’s walls and buildings in Daulat Gate and adjoining areas.

He said special teams had also been constituted to remove wall-chalking while in future cases would be lodged against the people involved in wall-chalking.

He said that work to restore the Food Street was also underway and it would be fully functional after Eid.

Also, Assistant Commissioner Qazi Mansoor conducted a crackdown on addicts around Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh on Friday and shifted 15 addicts to the rehabilitation center.

Mr Mansoor said that the addicts had been occupying the area for a long time and after crackdown the family points around the Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh will be used for the purpose these were established.
