SWABI: People here have started visiting canals and riversides to enjoy cool breeze and bathe to get some relief from the hot weather conditions during Ramazan.

They have been visiting canals, especially Pehur High Level Canal (PHLC) which is a tributary of the Indus River at Tarbela Dam’s upstream near Gandaf.

The visitors told this correspondent that the summer heat forced them to rush to the major and link canals in the district to beat the heat and pass their time.

The PHLC gives a look of an outdoor pool in summer as people could be seen diving into the canal water and staying there for a long time.

Asif Ali of Naro Kallay said that they enjoyed bath in the clean and cool water of PHLC. Hamza Ali of Maneri Bala said that everyone here wanted to be at the canal, especially in the afternoon hours to have a dip in the cool water.

FOOD PACKAGE: About 70 poor families of Sikandari village were given Eid food package at a ceremony on Sunday.

The arrangement was made by Jamaat-i-Islami’s youth wing and the families were selected through a survey. The organisers said the food package was aimed to help the destitute families celebrate Eidul Fitr like the other sections of society.

The food package comprised a ghee tin, 20kg wheat flour bag, rice and other items.

They said only deserving people were given the ration package.

JI youth wing general secretary Sayedul Ibrar said it was their religious duty to serve the needy people.

He said Eid suits were handed over to the orphans.
