LAHORE: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has sent a legal notice to the PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah for levelling false accusations against her and demanded he should pay her Rs2 billion in damages.
The notice served on Mr Sanaullah through a legal team says the purpose behind the “false allegations” was to tarnish the image of Ms Awan and damage her 20-year-long “spotless political career”.
It says Ms Awan has been a member of the National Assembly for 10 years and enjoys a reputation of being an honest politician. It says Ms Awan has been heading five different ministries and at present serves as a special assistant to the prime minister.
The notice states Ms Awan belongs to a noble family whereas the “false and frivolous” allegations have caused a serious damage to her credibility.
The PML-N leader has been asked to withdraw the “malicious” allegations he leveled against Ms Awan within 14 days, otherwise, the notice states, a law suit for the recovery of Rs2 billion damages will be filed before a court of law.
Mr Sanaullah, commenting on the legal notice, said he had just talked about alleged corruption in public buses and medicines involving Ms Awan and she got angry.
In a statement, he further said, “I had just questioned the competence of your (Ms Awan) new boss, but Firdous Baji I’m unable to understand your anger.”
