HARIPUR: Two motorcyclists were run over and killed by a speeding passenger bus on Haripur-Taxila Road near Hattar Industrial Estate here on Thursday morning.

Police said the deceased, Raj Wali and Naveed Ali, had the accident near Dohriyan Chowk when they’re on the way to work in a local ghee factory riding a motorcycle.

The driver fled in the bus after the accident.

The injured were shifted to the Kotnajibullah rural health centre but the doctor’s absence led to their shifting to the Haripur Trauma Centre, where they succumbed to head injuries due to excessive bleeding.

EVICTED: The district administration and Workers Welfare Board on Thursday evicted 63 illegal occupants of two WWB residential colonies.

The occupants offered little resistance to the administration and WWB officials, who were accompanied by police and officials of the relevant departments.

Additional assistant commissioner Dr Adil Ayub said 45 families lived in 400 residential quarters colony and 18 in 188 quarters colony of Hattar Industrial Estate without justification as either the factories they worked in had closed down or they didn’t have job anymore.

He said notices were served on occupants asking them to either produce allotment documents or vacate quarters voluntarily, but as they didn’t act accordingly, electric, gas and water supply to quarters was disconnected. The official said after issuing 24 hours notice, the administration evicted the illegal occupants, who didn’t offer resistance.

BAGS SEIZED: The administration seized a large quantity of polythene bags in different parts of Haripur district on Thursday.

The action was taken in the wake of the government’s ban on such shopping bags for being harmful to environment and health.

Additional deputy commissioner Baidulalh Shah seized 500kg polythene bags in a Cenral Jail Bazaar shop, assistant commissioner of Khanpur Gul Bano Bibi 700kg bags in Khanpur Bazaar shops, and additional assistant commissioner Adnan Jameel 250kg bags They warned shop keepers of legal action for selling such bags.
