SCBA chief says Justice Isa is a star in eyes of Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Amanullah Kanrani on Saturday said lawyers were certain the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) would decide the proceedings against Justice Qazi Faez Isa without being influenced by the government.

He said that an effective strategy would be devised in consultation with the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) to lodge a strong protest on July 2 when the SJC would resume proceedings on the reference.

Referring to reports published in various newspapers regarding the SJC proceedings, the SCBA president said he would coordinate with PBC vice chairman Amjad Shah and contact provincial bar councils, high court and district bar associations next week to devise an effective strategy.

Strategy being devised in consultation with legal fraternity for July 2 protest

He said that he would reach Islam­abad on June 24 in order to contact relevant stakeholders and will hold a meeting with the PBC vice chairman the following day to discuss the future course of action.

Mr Kanrani said Justice Isa was a star in the eyes of 220 million Pakistanis and expressed confidence in the SJC, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khan Khosa.
