Woman seeks Guinness record for long hair
A Peruvian woman is aiming for a Guinness World Record title after her hair was measured at 5.8 feet long.
Noemi Elizabeth Romero Huaman, dubbed the ‘Peruvian Rapunzel’, said she has been growing out her hair since she was born, and her 5.8-foot locks now reach the ground due to her five-foot height.
Romero is seeking a Guinness World Records title from an Argentina woman who grew her hair out to 4.99 feet long. The woman said long hair runs in her family.
Beethoven’s hair up for auction
A lock of Ludwig van Beethoven’s hair is scheduled to be auctioned in Britain nearly 200 years after the German composer gave it to a contemporary.
Auction house Sotheby’s said the lock of hair from the 19th century musician is scheduled to hit the auction block, with high bids expected at between $15,000 and $19,000.
The auctioneer said the hair was given by Beethoven to contemporary Anton Halm as a gift for Halm’s wife. Beethoven reportedly gave after declaring that a lock of hair Halm had procured from a third party was actually from a goat.
Sotheby’s said the hair headed to auction is “indisputably human” and comes with a silk thread and a 19th century glazed oval frame.
Pacifiers removed from bulldog’s stomach
A Boston animal hospital said veterinarians used X-rays to discover the cause of a bulldog’s nausea and vomiting: 19 pacifiers in his stomach.
The MSPCA’s Angell Animal Medical Centre said Emily Shanahan, the owner of Mortimer, a three-year-old bulldog, brought the canine into the facility in the spring to investigate the cause of his nausea and vomiting.
Mortimer was initially diagnosed with an acid reflux-related vomiting syndrome, but Shanahan brought him back to the hospital when his symptoms worsened.
Veterinarians at Angell performed an X-ray on Mortimer’s stomach and discovered the dog had ingested 19 pacifiers.
“I was shocked because even though I have two small children at home I’d never imagined he was eating their pacifiers,” Shanahan said.
Dr Erika De Papp performed an endoscopy on Mortimer to remove the pacifiers.
Wheelchair-bound Labrador gets a job
A gorgeous black Labrador, who uses a wheelchair to get around, has bagged a job at a charity for disabled kids. Maggie, the dog, has become the mascot for Bill’s Special Kids, a charity in Moreno Valley, California, that campaigns to make recreational facilities more inclusive for children with special needs.
The five year-old dog suffered a back injury that was left untreated, and ultimately meant she was unable to walk without dragging her back legs. She was taken to Newport Beach Animal Shelter, with an appearance on its social media pages prompting a fundraising effort that got Maggie her chair. Maggie loves her new wheels, and has since been adopted by the Yearsley family, who run Bill’s Special Kids.
