QUETTA: The Inspector General of Police Balochistan, Mohsin Hassan Butt, has said that the provincial police department is being computerised and once the process is completed the data of terrorists and criminals will be linked with the network of other provinces.
He said this would also help functionalise the Quetta Safe City Project.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, the provincial police chief said that after computerisation of the police department and with the help of information technology terrorists and criminals would find it hard to carry out their activities in Balochistan.
The IG said that the police Punjab and Sindh had compiled data of 1.3 million criminals and Balochistan had data of 25,000 criminals which would be shared with these provinces.
Emphasising the importance of modern technology, the IG said that steps were being taken to digitalise the police department.
Additional IG Police Naeem Akram Bhroka and AIG Information Technology Ali Nasir Rizvi shared details of the project.
They said Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunhkhwa police had already completed the computerisation process, adding that Punjab Police had assured them of all cooperation in the computerisation process of Balochistan Police.
He said police officers from Balochistan would be trained by Punjab Police.
They said that under the project criminal record management system, police station record management, complaint management system, resources management centre, tenant registration system, crime mapping and response centre would be introduced in the province.
Answering a question about setting up of a forensic lab in Balochistan, the IG said that construction of the building for the facility would be completed by end of current year.
