KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has issued notices to police and others on a petition of a free-will marriage couple seeking protection.
A single-judge bench headed by Justice Khadim Hussain Tunio issued notices to the police authorities and other respondents for July 10.
Zainab Bibi, through her lawyer Abid Parveen Channar, moved the court and submitted that the petitioner contracted a free-will marriage with Mohammad Fahim on June 18.
The petitioner contended that since she entered into the wedlock without the consent of her family, her brother Anwar Dada and others, said to be associated with one of the several criminal gangs operating in Lyari, were threatening to kill them.
She further submitted that they approached the Chakiwara and Baghdadi police stations, but police failed to provide them protection.
Impleading the police and relatives of the petitioner as respondents, the couple sought protection from the court.
