LODHRAN: Famous Naat Khawan Qari Shafqat Rasool Mehrvi was killed allegedly by his relatives in a family dispute in his house in Chak 6-M in the jurisdiction of Chowki Masti, Dunyapur, on Thursday night.

Family source told Dawn Mehrvi’s daughter and her husband had a dispute over some affairs, and on Wednesday, she came to her parents’.

Mehvri went to his son-in-law, who was also his nephew, to talk out the issue and returned home after a while. Soon after, some relatives came to Mehrvi’s house and beat him. Mehrvi fell unconscious and died when he was being shifted to hospital.

According to the first information report, Mehrvi’s son Mahboob Shafqat told the police that their relatives beat his father at their home and when they were shifting him to hospital, suspects blocked the road and did not let them reach hospital on time and because of the lapse of precious time, Mehrvi died on his way to hospital.

The police got conducted postmortem of the body and also lodged an FIR against four nominated suspects on Friday.

The police said they were raiding places to arrest the suspects.
