GUJRAT: Police on Sunday claimed to have recovered a newborn baby who was kidnapped from Karachi’s Abbasi Shaheed Hospital some days back, arresting the couple involved in kidnapping from the Tanda area of Gujrat.

District Police Officer Syed Ali Mohsin told the reporters the Nazimabad Police Station of Karachi had registered a kidnap case of a newborn baby girl from the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The incident was recorded in the closed-circuit TV cameras installed in the hospital and the video went viral on social media. However, the kidnappers were unidentified.

The DPO said the Tanda police had come to know that a woman, Shabana Arzoo, of Qazi Chak village who was childless had been seen with a baby. On receiving the information, the police questioned the woman about the baby whose face matched with that of the kidnapped infant. During further investigation, the woman confessed to kidnapping the baby girl in connivance with a friend in Karachi and her husband.

Mr Mohsin said the police had been directed to make arrangements for handing over the baby to her parents in Karachi.
