MIRAMSHAH: One soldier was martyred and five others were injured in two bomb explosions in North Waziristan tribal district on Wednesday.

The first incident occurred near Kharqamar check-post in Datakhel tehsil. Officials said that a bomb disposal squad was searching the area when a remote-controlled device went off. Four security personnel were injured.

Javed, one of the injured personnel, died. Three wounded soldiers — Rustam, Bilal and Wali — were taken to a nearby hospital. Following the explosion, security forces cordoned off the area and carried out a search operation.

The second blast took place near Mirali town. Witnesses said that a rocket was fired at the Army’s Golden Arrow School shortly before the bomb blast. Security forces were proceeding towards the area when an explosive device hit the vehicle. Officials said that Colonel Bilal and Lance Naik Faisal were injured in the blast. They were later shifted to a military hospital.

North Waziristan tribal district has witnessed sporadic violence over the past few weeks in which several protesters and security personnel have lost their lives.
