KOHAT: The Kohat campus of Preston University has been closed, jeopardising future of the students and faculty members.

Talking to this correspondent here on Thursday, vice-chancellor of the university Dr Asmatullah Khan said that those students who had failed in some papers had been given a chance to sit in the examination again after 15 days.

He recalled that a few months ago the HEC had cleared the varsity’s campus from certain observations. He said that first the Islamabad campus was closed, then Peshawar’s and now the Kohat campus had also been shut after 18 years.

Mr Asmatullah said that the tussle with the HEC had been going on for the last three years though they had completed all requirements regarding a suitable building, computer laboratories and induction of PhDs as teachers.

“We have employed a highly experienced faculty with PhDs from UK, US and other countries. Besides, we have 30 labs and a rich library for the students,” he said. He said that he had written letters to the chief minister, chief of the army staff and CM’s adviser Ziaullah Bangash to save the future of the students and teachers, but did not get any response.

Assistant professor of computer science, Kamran Khan, told this scribe that in all 106 students had been affected who had a year or two remaining to complete the course. He said that the administration would try to get the students absorbed in any public sector university.

AWARENESS DRIVE: The district administration has started an awareness campaign against polio after detection of two cases in Hangu district.

Assistant commissioner Umer Awaiz and polio focal person Dr Ahmed Amin addressed an awareness session at Aims Public College on Thursday. They called upon the teachers and owners of the educational institutions to perform their national duty and remove the negative impression about polio vaccine so that children could be saved from the crippling disease.

Meanwhile, the administration of Hangu has started spray against Congo virus in Doaba cattle market. Director livestock Dr Haji Dilbar, focal person Wali Mohammad and councillor Sardar Ali supervised the spray and vaccination of livestock.
