In pictures: England lift the World Cup after nail-biting fight against New Zealand
The game came so close in the end, no one knew what to expect up till the last ball.
England made history on Sunday when they lifted the World Cup for the first time ever. The match itself, however, may be dubbed as the best Cricket World Cup final in years to come.
The hosts, who needed a modest total of 242 for victory, ended the game on 241 all out — a tie that sent the match into a Super Over.
The six-ball shootout also ended in a tie, with both sides hitting 15 runs, but Eoin Morgan's side won by virtue of a superior boundary count in the match.

Actually the trophy should be shared by both England and New Zealand as both of them deserve the cup for their excellent efforts.

A great world cup final, both teams played extremely well and deservered to be the winner. This match will go in the history as the nail bitting, exciting and most watched. Well done both teams!

In fairness of the things, both teams should have been declared joint winners.

The best and the most exciting grand final ever played at the famous and undisputed headquarters of the cricket World; Lords Cricket Stadium, in the history of World Cup Cricket since its inception in 1975.

@R, You are wrong. Actual winner is WI who beats the team you mentioned in 13 over, the team that beats both the finalists.. Buddy, whatever makes you happy :) It's good to be happy.

IMHO England won New Zealand didn't lose. This surely should go down in history as the match both teams didn't lose.

Best World Cup match so far. At least after the one in 1979. Where two decent teams just played a sport in front of a decent and appreciative crowd who clapped for a run or a boundary without the war cry or flag waving and without bringing nationalism or regionalism into play. Was also nice to see the noise level bearable. Wouldn’t mind another finals without any tea, from the subcontinent

@satya - its ok buddy. your powerhouse india crumbled in the final just as it did earlier against india. the only difference is against eng it did it deliberately ! ..Pakistan was never meant to go that far with team they had but yet here they were again...

Some foolish rules made England wins. Though NZ made with 8 wickets loss while England made it while losing 10 wickets. After this, does ICC really need to go for Super Over?
