UN to work with KP to enforce anti-harassment laws

ISLAMABAD: The UN Women Pakistan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) ombudsperson to provide protection to woman against sexual harassment at the workplace.

UN Women Pakistan Deputy Country Representative Aisha Mukhtar and the first KP Ombudsperson Rukhshanda Naz signed the MoU.

Addressing on the occasion KP Ombudsperson Rukhshanda Naz said as the office of ombudsperson had become active, smooth implementation of the Workplace Harassment Law would be ensured to provide safe environment to the woman so that they could contribute to the economy to their potential.

She said that women like everybody else had a legal right to a safe working environment, which was free of sexual harassment.

She said her office would ensure effective implementation of sexual harassment laws.

Under the MoU, the trends of sexual harassment at the workplace would be assessed through database of reported cases. Besides, the capacity of inquiry committees to deal with cases of sexual harassment would be enhanced.
