QUETTA: Deputy Chief of Mission at Chinese Embassy Lijian Zhao held a meeting with tribal chieftains and elders here on Sunday.

During the meeting, he said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project would prove to be a game-changer in the region and that it would bring a revolution in the development of Pakistan.

He said that with its completion the CPEC project would give a boost to Pakistan’s trade and strengthen the country’s economy. The economic corridor project would be beneficial not only for Pakistan, but also for the entire region, he added.

Under the CPEC, work on a number of mega projects in Balochistan had begun, he said, adding the project of Gwadar International Airport was one of them.

Gwadar is the central as well as the starting point of CPEC. China and Pakistan has jointly taken measures to provide better infrastructure to Gwadar city.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri also shared his views with the tribal elders. He said the people of Balochistan, especially those who live in Quetta, were thankful to the government for launching tube well projects for minimising the shortage of water. Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, who is president of the Pakistan-China Friendship Association, was also present on the occasion.
