Karachi suffers major power breakdown

KARACHI: The city suffered a major power breakdown late on Monday night after it received intermittent showers earlier in the day.
The power breakdown occurred at around 11pm, plunging many areas of the city into darkness. Power supply in most of these areas could not be restored till late night.
Earlier in the day the city received intermittent drizzle which turned the weather pleasant.
According to some citizens who made phone calls to Dawn, soon after the rain started their areas suffered power breakdowns.
Among the affected areas are Saddar, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-i-Maymar, F.B. Area, Nazimabad, Rizvia, Kharadar and Korangi.
K-Electric in a statement said that power supply to some parts of Karachi suffered brief interruption due to intermittent showers on Monday night.
According to it, affected areas included some parts of Defence Housing Society, Gulistan-i-Juhar, Malir, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and North Karachi. “KE teams remained fully alert following the shower and responded swiftly to restore electricity to affected areas in minimal time,” the statement said.

The statement of KE is incorrect as the supply to some areas not yet restored. Few blocks of Nazimabad and nort Nazimabad among the areas to quote.
Also the SMS respose service of KE is perhaps deactivated cos no reply of our inquiry for the restoration of the disrupted power.

Power breakdown with multiple power surges causing damage to UPS's, fans, lights and AC's. Who is responsible for his damage? K-Electric the culprit will get away as usual.

KE is not giving the complete information. Breakdowns have been reported across Karachi and several times after 10:35 pm exactly AFTER the peak load time was over. In Clifton I am experiencing a Fourth breakdown after 10:35 pm last night as I write these lines.

UP is one of the most backward state. But in last 2 years, all of UP has minimum of 20-21 hours power supply.

Rain is just an excuse so they deal with the load shedding problems. This is not new thing. Even few rain drops and they disconnect electricity.

KE is full of incapable employees who could simply not run the supply due to their non professional behavior towards any effort to make betterment in distribution systems. They should all be kicked out and new engineers should be hired and trained to do better work.

This is performance of K-Electric which is paralyzed after having few drops of rain. Shame on it's management because it set focus on minting money only, throwing working on supplying an interrupted power.in the backyard. Why was KESC privitized ? Will anybody bother to ask K- Electric

Its still out in Block 2 Gulistan e Johar at 2:06 pm today (23rd July) from 10:00 pm yesterday...
Thanks to the day robberies and loot by KE, they have upgraded their system so nicely that even a single drop of a drizzle is enough to send entire city and areas in blackout for over 16 hours and more.
Is somebody looking at the case of KE as well??? or Nepra and Govt busy in taking money out of poor consumers' pockets and paying to IPPs and KE all... day time robbery .... Take for example the new peak hour billing formula implemented. No one is standing or protecting consumers' rights here

The performance of K-Electric despite changing its name from KESC after privatisation could not improve its efficiency neither in summer nor in winter season.
It has become routine that during rain K-Electric shut down electricity with very first drop and then slowly and gradually statement from K-Electric is issued that so many power feeders are tripped and staff is providing 24 hours service to normalise electricity in Karachi.
Changing of coper wires from silver wires is not new story. Every one knows that how K-Electric made money after selling coper wires in the market. Exorbitant billing, rise in tariff for consumers using above 300 electricity units have become talk of the town.
In London electricity is not put off despite the fact it rain every day without fail, but issue for K-Electric is Karachi is Karachi and cannot be made London as far as providing electricity is concerned during rain.
The name of ‘load-shedding’ is changed and now it is called as “load-management”.

We had no power for most of monday starting at 10AM. They restored power in the middle of the night but we've had intermittent power failure since then. This in a supposedly load shedding exempt area!

Nothing changes! Left Pakistan 25 years ago to live abroad. Even at that time rain provided a relief from the sweltering heat but then came night long power cuts, and water collecting on the roads. Naya Pakistan or Purana Pakistan nothing changes! So Sorry!
