LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore on Thursday handed over Rs107.3m to different institutions which it recovered in different scams.

The University of Sargodha (UoS), Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Punjab Highways Department, Gujranwala Irrigation Employees Cooperative Housing Society (GIECHS) and Northern Power Generation Company Limited (NPGCL) were given the recovered amount.

In the case of the UoS, its former VC Dr Muhammad Akram and others had opened two illegal campuses in Lahore and Mandi Bahauddin by misusing their authority and without obtaining approval from the Syndicate whereas by corrupt, dishonest and illegal means, they had obtained Rs59m in respect of excess fees from the students as approved by the UoS. NAB said the accused had dishonestly and fraudulently misappropriated Rs50m in terms of administrative matters; thereby, causing loss of Rs100m, collectively.

During the course of investigation, NAB said, the accused opted for a plea bargain (PB) and returned the abovementioned amount.

The recovered amount would be returned by UoS admin to all the students who had paid their fees in excess and the rest would be returned to the university administration.
