KARACHI: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has named former Olympian K M Junaid as manager-cum-chief coach of the Pakistan hockey team.

He will be assisted by Olympian Waseem Ahmed, Sameer Hussain and Ajmal Khan.

The team management was named by the PHF President retired Brig Khalid Sajjad Khkokhar at a press conference at Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium on Monday. The PHF secretary Asif Bajwa was also present on the occasion.

It is pertinent to mention that Junaid had served as coach of the national team in the past.

The PHF chief also named Olympian goalkeeper Shahid Ali Khan as goalkeeping coach. He will groom a batch of upcoming goalkeepers in a academy that the PHf will establish in the city.

To a question he said Pakistan’s next target is South Asian Games and 2024 Olympic qualifiers. He also thanked the Sindh government for doling out Rs 25m to the cash- strapped PHF for supporting the national game.

He said the PHF was working as per national sports policy.—A.Z
