Flood hits kutcha area of Dadu

DADU, July 29: The kutcha area of the district was inundated on Friday as a result of a medium flood flowing in the Indus. However, the flow of water was decreasing in the river. Irrigation authorities said that the kutcha area on the right bank of the Indus was completely submerged and about 200 villages were flooded.

An official of flood control cell, Inayat Ali, told Dawn that water was developing pressure at 77-mile of LS bund near Dadu town, 880-mile at Talti near Sehwan.

He further said that kutcha area from Radhan of LS mile 60 to 880-mile of Talti was flooded.

He said that 416,310 cusecs of water was recorded at downstream Sukkur Barrage and 477,580 cusecs at upstream.

He said that a flow of 227,000 cusecs was recorded at upstream of Kotri Barrage and 188,667 cusecs downstream Kotri.

He said that Manchhar Lake was also receiving river water and lake level was 107.35 RL.

The Executive Engineer, Rohri Irrigation Division, Jam Mitha Khan, said that 450,000 cusecs of water was flowing from Dadu-Moro bridge and water was developing pressure at approach road of Dadu-Moro bridge, J-spur and Dadu-Moro bridge and Bakhri point of SM Bund.

He said that people of kutcha area were not ready to shift in the right bank of the River, though their houses were inundated.

He said that dumping of stones at erosion points of embankments was going on.

SUICIDE: A young girl Sassui 25, committed suicide by hanging herself with scarf in her house over some domestic problems in the Murad Gadehi Village, Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka, on Thursday night.

KILLED: A thief was killed while his accomplice was injured on Thursday night in the Bux Lakhiar Village. The attempted to rob one Azizullah Narejo in his house.

He raised alarm which attracted the villagers who opened fire and shot dead a thief Nabi Bux while his accomplice Saleem Lakhiar was injured.
