SHIKARPUR: A team of artists led by a known singer of Sindh was taken away and held in unlawful confinement apparently for not bringing female dancers with them to a function as per the deal with the hosts of a musical programme.

The singer, Ghulam Nabi, popularly known as Jigar Jalal, had agreed to perform at a wedding ceremony along with his team and some female dancers, also to be brought by him, on Sunday night at a place within the katcha area of Naparkot. The hosts had paid the agreed upon token money to him.

However, the team of artists arrived late at the function and that too without female dancers which annoyed the hosts — belonging to the Teghani community of the area.

According to the guests present at the function, the hosts took Jigar Jalal and his team members — his son, Aftab Ahmed, nephew Ameer Ali, and co-artists Lateef Tunio and Bahadur Ali — to an undisclosed place in the riverine area of Khanpur taluka to punish them.

Shikarpur ASP Farooque Amjad said that the car by which the team had left the venue of the ceremony was turned away by the Teghanis half way. Its driver told the police that the artists were taken away deep into the katcha area. The ASP said that police were trying to locate them and recover the artists’ team.

There was no clue to the team till the last reports came in late on Monday evening.
