KOHAT: The members of the transgender community on Friday held a protest demonstration in Sangerh area against the police for harassing them and demanding bribe for attending wedding functions.
Talking to mediapersons on the occasion, their leader Jaidi said the administration had banned their functions without any reason and had asked them to take prior permission from police before attending these events.
He said there was no such ban anywhere in the country, adding wedding parties were the only source of their income. He disclosed that when they went to the respective police stations for taking permission the cops demanded Rs5,000 for the permit for one night which was grave injustice.
He demanded that if the ban continued the government should provide them with alternative jobs.
TREE PLANTATION: Vice-chancellor of Kohat University of Science and Technology Dr Jameel Ahmed launched the Clean and Green Pakistan drive by planting a sapling on the Hangu campus of the varsity on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said they had set a target of planting 10,000 saplings by the end of the year. He said they had already planted 1,500 olive trees in the Kohat and 1,000 in the Hangu campus.
Dr Ahmed said forests were the national asset and it was duty of the people to plant and protect the trees to stop negative environmental changes.
