MIRPURKHAS: Rain with thunder and heavy windstorm lashed Mirpurkhas city and its outskirts here on Tuesday, which was the third spell of monsoon showers in the interior of Sindh. Badin and Sanghar districts received moderate downpour.

In Mirpurkhas district, strong winds uprooted signboards and trees at different places.

The heavy downpour restricted people to their houses while markets and bazaars remained closed.

With the first drop of rain, power supply was disrupted and Mirpurkhas city plunged into darkness while rainwater accumulated on main roads and in streets, causing difficulties to citizens.

Growers and abadgars expressed their happiness over the rainfall, saying said that there was an acute need of water for the cultivated cotton, chilli, sugar cane and other crops as there was already persisting shortage of water in Nara Canal and its adjoining watercourses.

Till filing of this report, intermittent rainfall continued and the city was plunged into darkness.

Reports said rainfall also took place in Mirwah Gorchani, Digri, Tando Jan Mohammad, Jhuddo, Naokot, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Sindhri, Hingorno, Phuladyyoon, Khaan, Jhilori etc.

Many areas of Sanghar district also received light to moderate showers.

In Thar region, the rain coupled with thunderstorm lashed Umerkot, Nagarparkar, Islamkot, Chhachhro, Mithi and Diplo in the evening. It was still raining when this report was filed.

Badin received light to moderate rain which started after 7.50pm at Kadhan, Nindo Shaher, Shadi Large and the adjoining areas and continued for 20 minutes while Talhar, Golarchi, Matli and Dumbalo received light rain.

Power supply continued but with very low voltage.
