I love all things chocolate and am always finding an excuse to make a chocolaty treat for myself. So while searching for a simple recipe to satisfy my chocolate craving, I came across an interesting recipe that I am going to share today — ‘No bake chocolate oatmeal cookies’.

The name seemed intriguing as I have either had the regular chocolate cookies or the chocolate chip cookies, so I just had to try it. I substituted oatmeal for wheat porridge since I didn’t have oatmeal at home. And I reasoned that oatmeal is simply a kind of porridge so it really won’t make much of a difference if I used wheat porridge instead of oats porridge.

These no bake cookies were a bit chewy and fudgy, less like a cookie except for the shape. And to be honest, the grainy effect of the porridge didn’t go well with some in the house, but I thought it was a nice snack to garb on the go in the morning rush.

You can store it in an airtight container in the fridge. And since it need a bit of cooking, take help from an adult. Enjoy!

Ingredients

• 2/3 cup butter

• 2 cups granulated sugar

• 1/2 cup milk

• 4 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

• 2 teaspoon vanilla

• 3 1/2 cups quick cooking oats

Instructions

Put a saucepan on medium flame, add the butter, milk, vanilla essence, sugar. Stir until the sugar melts and the butter dissolves. Add cocoa powder and stir until dissolved, now add porridge and stir gently until it becomes a bit thick and dry, in about five minutes or so. If it is too fluid, it will not set well.

All in all, it shouldn’t require more than 10 minutes of cooking.

Take off the stove and let it cool for five minutes, then using a spoon, drop onto a baking tray or parchment paper, shaping it into circles that are not too flat. You can also make ball out of it if you want. Leave to set for half an hour or put it in the fridge to do it faster. Enjoy this chocolate porridge cookie with a glass of milk or tea.
