PESHAWAR: The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP), Cantonment Board, Peshawar Development Authority and administrations of all the four towns have agreed to formulate a joint integrated sanitation plan for keeping Peshawar clean.

In this regard, WSSP Chief Executive Officer Syed Zafar Ali Shah chaired a meeting which was attended by the representatives of PDA, Cantonment Board and towns, according to a statement issued here.

The meeting was held after Chief Minister Mahmood Khan directed them to devise a joint strategy for keeping the city clean.

The representatives shared data of the sanitation services, quantity of waste collected on daily basis and dumping and transportation system.

“PDA, Cantonment Board and the administrations of the towns should decide what kind of services the WSSP can extend; either we should pick waste from your localities or you transport it to our transfer stations,” Syed Zafar Ali Shah said while discussing the matter at the meeting.

He said that WSSP was developing a landfill site to mitigate environmental impacts of the waste. “We are properly covering the waste with lime and fumigate the surrounding area to control stench and breeding of mosquitoes,” he said.

The chief executive officer said that WSSP had been training its entire field staff, including that of water supply, sanitation and technical, to build their capacity in their relevant field.

He said that WSSP had now a skilled workforce and it was modernising its machinery. He offered to train sanitation, water supply and technical staff of the departments, which was welcomed by their representatives.
