SWABI: Water pumps of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) at five congested localities here in the district have developed faults, creating acute shortage of drinking water for the residents.
Sources told this correspondent here on Tuesday that people were totally dependent on PHED pumps for water supply, which had been out of order for the last few days.
They said two water pumps had developed faults in Topi tehsil main city. The one supplies water to Mero, Haidar Colony and Topi police station region and the other to Sulay region and its suburbs.
The local people said that one of these had stopped water supply from Saturday last and the report was sent to the local PHED on Monday. They said that a report about the other faulty pump had also been submitted to the officials.
PHED official says repair of pumps can take three days
When contacted Aamir Zeb, a sub-engineer in PHED, said that they had started repair of the pumps which could take three to four days.
Similarly, the water pump in Malikabad village of mountainous region of Gadoon Amazai, that of Batakara village and PK-44 also stopped water supply to the people when these developed technical faults.
KILLED: Three people were killed in separate incidents here on Tuesday.
Registering an FIR, Zawar Khan of Palosai village told Kalu Khan police that Ziaul Hasan, Nisarul Hasan and Said Mufeez opened fire on him and his uncle, Ishfaq Khan. As result, his uncle was killed and he got bullet injuries.
On the other hand, injured Ziaul Hasan and Nisar told police that Mirjawal Khan, Kamal Afsar and Ishfaq Khan opened fire on them and as a result they received injuries. A land dispute was stated to be the cause of the clash.
In Swatyan area of Topi city, one Abid Khan, who was said to be an addict, was found dead in a street. Police said that there were signs of injuries on his head. Muslim Khan, a resident of Purmuli, in his FIR alleged that Abdul Quresh and Behramand strangled his wife in his absence.
SHOW-CAUSE NOTICE: Awami National Party Senator Sitara Ayaz, who received a show-cause notice from the party on Monday last, said here on Tuesday that she would submit a reply soon.
ANP district president Amanullah told this correspondent that she indulged in groupings and without any notice to the district office-bearers participated in different programmes.
When contacted, Sitara Ayaz said she participated in non-political programmes otherwise she would have informed the district leaders. “I will submit a reply to the notice within the given seven days,” she said.
