KOHAT: The Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industry has demanded establishment of a sub-office of the environment protection department in Kohat as the local industrialists have go to Dera Ismail Khan for getting no-objection certificates, etc.

KCCI president Rasheed Paracha said in a statement that the government had attached Kohat district with the regional office of the environment protection department, DI Khan, and the industrialists had to travel a long distance and spend a night there for their work.

They demanded opening of a sub-office in Kohat for the industrialists or attaching Kohat with Peshawar for their convenience.

He regretted that they had already brought the matter into the notice of the chief secretary and chief minister, but no action was taken as yet.

TRADERS FINED: Additional assistant commissioner Murad Khan Hoti fined 10 shopkeepers for encroachments in Miankhel Bazaar here on Wednesday.

Accompanied by the TMA staff, he also removed encroachments from the road during operation. He asked the shopkeepers to avoid hoarding and profiteering.

Later, he checked the record at city and Garhi Mawaz Khan Patwar Khanas (revenue offices) and asked the patwaris for early completion of transfers of land.

Meanwhile, the food safety authority sealed a warehouse and two shops in Gumbat tehsil and seized eight cartons of substandard fruit syrups and 2,000 packs of juices on Wednesday.

The operation was conducted by assistant director Rukhsar Ali and food safety officer Salman Ahmed. The owners stated that they had got the consignments from a factory in Mardan.

ARRESTED: The police arrested a man wanted by Lahore police in a dacoity case in an intelligence-based operation here on Wednesday.

A statement issued from the DPO office said that the city police SHO Fayyaz Khan got information that the alleged robber, identified as Tafseer Haider of Maria area, Kohat, was present in Sarafa Bazaar. He formed a team and arrested him from a shop. He was moved to the police station where he admitted to have committed a dacoity in Lahore, said the statement.

The SHO later told mediapersons that the suspect had looted Rs2.5 million from a market after blindfolding the watchman at gunpoint along with his accomplices on Aug 20, 2019. He would be handed over to the concerned Lahore police.
