BAHAWALPUR: Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid on Thursday inaugurated the new building of the Bahawalpur railway station.
Speaking at a ceremony, he reiterated that efforts were being made to rebuild the old infrastructure of the railways. He said the railways was the backbone of the economy and it would be improved to provide better travelling facilities to the passengers.
He said work on the main line (ML-1) was expected to begin by Sept 25. He said the state-of-the-art building of the railway station had been completed at a cost of about Rs270 million.
CONGO VIRUS: A man has been tested positive for Congo virus and is being treated in the isolation ward of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital.
The patient was admitted two days ago and tested positive on Wednesday night after which he was being treated.
BVH doctors told Dawn that Amir Hamza, 20, a resident of Sadiq Colony of Ahmedpur East Road, was admitted two days ago at the emergency ward which sent his blood samples for laboratory examination. The laboratory confirmed suspicion of Congo virus, they said, adding that his condition was stable.
EXHIBITION: An exhibition of arms and ammunition was held at Gulzar Mahal polo ground in connection with the Defence Day.
The exhibition attracted a number of people, especially students of local institutions, who took keen interest in the paraphernalia.
Meanwhile, Punjab Food Minister Samiullah Chaudhry and Bahawalpur division Commissioner Nayyar Iqbal at a function paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1965 war.
The commissioner also visited the house of Dr Abid to pay homage to his martyred son Capt Hissaan and led a Defence Day rally from his office to Farid Gate.
