HYDERABAD, Aug 1: In an urgent communication addressed to the Speaker of the National Assembly a copy to which was sent to the chief election commissioner in Islamabad, Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur MNA, has appealed for protection of his life, honour and privilege as a Member of the National Assembly as he was being chased by the DPO Jamshoro.

A copy of the communication was also faxed to Dawn. He complained that the DPO, along with his force, was chasing him as if he was an alien. He said, all norms of decency were being violated.

He appealed to the Speaker of the National Assembly to safeguard his privilege and added that the DPO of Jamshoro wanted to harm him and had created havoc in the district.

Meanwhile, former nazim of the defunct Dadu district, Malik Asad and Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur MNA, in a joint statement issued here on Monday, said that the FIR lodged against them by the Jamshoro district police was absolutely baseless.

They paid compliments to those police officers who had refused to lodge the false FIR.

They also refuted the statement of DPO Jamshoro claiming that the police had raided Malik Houses at Thano Ahmed Khan and Kotri and arrested two guards. They said that the guards, Khuda Bux and Ghulam Mohammad, were arrested when they were returning from the court in Kotri.

They said that they were not absconders as had been claimed by the police and were very much remained present in the Malik House, Kotri, throughout the day. They said that such statements were being issued to provoke the people of Jamshoro district with a view to creating law and order situation.

They said that if the law and order situation deteriorated in the Jamshoro district, the Sindh chief minister and the DPO Jamshoro would be responsible.

They further said that Mr.Liaquat Jatoi wanted the victory of PML-Q candidates in Jamshoro only to fulfil his dream of becoming the chief minister of Sindh.

Meanwhile, the District and Sessions Judge, Jamshoro at Kotri, has granted pre-arrest bails to Pir Bux Khaskheli, former MNA Dadu district, Ghulam Nabi Shoro MPA and Faqir Dad Khoso.

A criminal case under sections 353, 147, 148, 149, 186, 224, 440 and 504 PPC was registered against them at the Kotri police station following a clash between the police and the supporters of Awam Dost candidates within the premises of the Kotri courts two days ago.

Police had cordoned the court to arrest the candidate, Dur Mohammad Palari but the supporters clashed with the police to prevent his arrest.

PROTEST: A large number of residents of Kumhar Para including women staged a protest demonstration outside the local press club on Monday evening against the demolition of their homes by the railway authorities.

Talking to reporters, former general councillor of the area Babu Lal and others said that they had been living in the Para for the last eight years and the railway authorities had bulldozed 50 houses without giving them any notice.

They alleged that they had suffered a loss of millions of rupees as they were not given any time to remove their belongings.

They appealed to the Sindh Governor and the Chief Minister and the Railway Minister, Shamim Ahmed to take notice of the highhandedness of the railway authorities and do justice by paying them compensation.
