HYDERABAD, Aug 1: Residents of Pathan, Dadan Shah and Sarfaraz colonies took to the streets on Monday to protest against disruption in power supply, accumulation of sewage and issuance of detection bills to consumers by Hesco. Raising slogans against Hesco authorities, the protesters blocked connecting roads for more than one hour, leading to a massive traffic jam.
They said their localities were without power supply for the past two to three days. They said a transformer of the area which needed repair had been taken away by Hesco officials but it had yet not been replaced.
They said that on account of power disruption, power supply to residential areas remained suspended and mosques did not have water for ablution. The protesters also staged sit-ins in front of the Police Line gate outside the Al-Rahim shopping centre, Pathan Colony and the Liberty Chowk.
Meanwhile, Gari Khata sub-division executive engineer Akbar Durrani claimed that some fault had developed in the transformer which had immediately been replaced on Sunday night. He added that on Monday the same problem had occurred and it had been taken care of. He said there were complaints of low voltage.
DENIAL: A woman candidate, Sajida, who was elected unopposed on a councillor’s seat of peasant/worker in union council-12, Latifabad, has dismissed reports that she had been kidnapped by a political party.
Speaking at a press conference along with her husband, Raees alias Qurban, at the press club here on Monday, she maintained that she had good relations with all political groups. She added that she had no enmity with any political party as she was an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, Asif Memon also rejected reports that he had been kidnapped by activists of a political party.
He claimed that Qazi Sami of the Al-Khidmat Panel had misused his NIC in union councils-7, city, as his seconder or proposer.
He said that he had informed the returning officer in this respect.
