Blood donation camp organised

The Indonesian Embassy organised its fourth annual blood donation camp to support Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS). With numerous students and members of the diplomatic community, the camp attracted a large number of donors keen to contribute.

Indonesian Ambassador Iwan S. Amri was among the first to give blood. Calling every blood donor a hero, the ambassador said: “The presence of so many participants, especially the young students, in this camp reflects that you fully realise how important donating blood is. In fact, voluntary blood donors like you are truly the lifeline for many patients.”

He also requested a minute of silence to observe the passing of B.J. Habibie, former president of Indonesia, who passed away last week. Habibie was known as the father of Indonesian technology and a pioneer of the aviation industry.

Ambassador Amri said that under Habibie’s leadership the Indonesian economy remained sound amid global crises.

Dr Wasifa Mutassim, PRCS Islamabad programme officer, thanked the Indonesian ambassador for his support, which this year included a donation of collapsible chairs for blood collection. She said that the blood donation camps motivated others to follow suit and also contribute.

Ambassador Amri said that as a human being there could be nothing more satisfying for them than contributing in saving the life of a fellow human being.
