SAHIWAL: The Higher Education Department (HED) has finally approved two government members of the selection board of the University of Sahiwal after a delay of 10 months.

It is hoped that the university will now complete the process of staff hiring against 180 vacant posts needed to run different academic faculties and administration. The two government members have been appointed for a three-year period.

Dr Muhammad Nasir, the vice chancellor, told Dawn a notification had been issued and candidate’s scrutiny and selection process at the university would start soon.

“The hiring process will start after meeting of the selection board,” the VC added.

Around 8,500 candidates had applied against 180 vacant posts advertised in Oct 2018. Dawn learnt from the sources total eight members were required for the selection board which included six from the university Syndicate while two were required to be appointed by government.

The VC said service statute of the university had not been approved yet and the university was doing its best to get approval of service statute which would allow the university to get provincial government funds allocation in annual budget.

The university was established in 2015 through passage of an Act by the government but the provincial government has not allocated any budget for it.
