DERA GHAZI KHAN: Special task of cleanliness of the city has been given to water and sanitation agencies (Wasas) of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan, said Dera Ghazi Khan Commissioner Mudassar Malik in a press conference here on Thursday.

Talking to the media, he said the city that was facing sanitary issues needed special efforts to resolve them. On the direction of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, special task of cleanliness had been given to Wasas of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad to deal with sanitary problems of Dera Ghazi Khan, he added.

Mr Malik said the city produced 210 tonne garbage on a daily basis the city administration had no resources to cope with it.

Comparing the resources of municipal corporations of Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur, he said there were 1,000 sanitary workers for 23 union councils of Bahawalpur while only 175 workers for 17 union councils of DG Khan.

Thanking a cement company that had donated 17 motorcycle-rickshaws for garbage collection, he said machinery for solid waste would be made available soon. He said the solid waste management company had been established and it would start functioning within three months and until then, Wasa and solid management companies of other cities would handle the sewage and solid waste problems of the city.

The commissioner claimed that the residents of the city would soon see their city in a clean and neat state.

HASHISH: The Punjab Border Military Police Bewata seized 20kg hashish that was being smuggled into Punjab.

During routine checking of vehicles on provincial boundary check post, they police found hashish hidden in parts of a car. They arrested driver Zafar Iqbal and impounded the car.
