LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau, Lahore, has summoned the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) commissioner in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case for Sept 27.

In the call-up notice regarding investigation against M/s Chaudhry Sugar Mills owned by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza, Maryam and others, the NAB asked SECP commissioner Tahir Mahmood to appear before a combined investigation team at his provincial headquarters Thokar Niaz Beg on Sept 27 and record his statement.

“The inquiry has revealed that you are in possession of of information/evidence pertaining to alleged money laundering in Chaudhry Sugar Mills which was investigated bu the SECP,” it said.

Maryam has been in the NAB’s custody in connection with money laundering charges in this case for the last one-and-a-half months.

The bureau had also sent a questionnaire to Mr Sharif in Kot Lakhpat jail in this regard. Mr Sharif is serving a seven-year imprisonment in Al-Azizia Mills case. The NAB sought details of telegraphic transfers (TTs) received by Nawaz Sharif.

Meanwhile, the NAB has sought claims from the affectees of the Brothers Sugar Mills by the middle of next month. It said the mills had not paid money to farmers during 2014-16.
