QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani has said the prevailing system of land settlement in the revenue department is being reviewed with an aim to bring transparency in its affairs and allowed district officers, assistant commissioners, deputy commissioners and commissioners to tackle land matters.

“This will not only help carry out better inspection of the tehsil record but will also ensure rights of the people effectively,” he said while presiding over a meeting attended among others by Revenue Minister Saleem Ahmed Khan Khosa, Chief Secretary retired captain Fazeel Asghar, senior member of revenue board Qamar Masood and Makran Division Commissioner Tariq Zehri.

Earlier, the senior member of revenue board briefed the chief minister and other participants in the meeting about land settlement issues in Gwadar and Pasni.

The chief minister said the provincial government was implementing a plan to replace the old system with the one that could meet modern day requirements. He said Balochistan had a vast area and as such the land settlement officers should get themselves acquainted with all technical issues and happenings. Keeping in view this aspect, the district officers, assistant commissioners, deputy commissioners and commissioners could tackle land settlement issues in their respective areas, he added.

Mr Alyani directed the relevant authorities to prepare a mechanism, telling them that necessary amendments could also be made to the land revenue act as per requirement to ensure that there is no legal obstacle or lacuna in the process.
