SUKKUR: A contractor was picked up by the Sukkur circle team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for interrogation in connection with an inquiry into a multi-million scam.

The team raided the bungalow of contractor Zabardast Khan Mahar and took several files and documents relating to the contracts awarded to him in recent past.

The inquiry was initiated after arrest of MNA Syed Khursheed Shah. According to the Sukkur NAB officials, Zabardast Khan Mahar acted as the ‘front man’ of provincial minister Syed Awais Qadir Shah, who is the nephew of Syed Khursheed Shah.

They said Mahar was picked up from his residence near Rohri on Sunday and taken to the local NAB office along with his vehicle for interrogation. He would be produced in the Sukkur accountability court on Monday to seek his remand, they added.

The NAB team is looking into the allegation of corruption in several contracts awarded to him by the food department, pilferage of millions of rupees from the Rs1 billion subsidy on wheat and illegal construction of an ice factory over state-owned land in Rohri.
