KARACHI: Lahore College for Women University students in Lahore on Thursday received the 33rd National Games torch with great enthusiasm and fervour as Punjab Olympic Association Secretary Khwaja Idrees Haider handed the torch to college’s Director Sports Humaira Mughal. The college’s many international athletes including Sameera Sattar, Saman, Diana Baig, Nida Akram, Minahil Ahmed, Ghazala Aamir, Maria Nazeer, Shehrish Maqsood, Asima Akram and Ghazala Siddiq then lifted the torch and carried it across college’s large ground.

The students also sang national anthem as a part of the ceremony along with Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Secretary Khalid Mehmood, Chairman Torch Committee Mohammad Abid Qadri, POA Secretary Finance Mohammad Shafiq, Khwaja Idrees and Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) Chairperson Tehmina Asif.

On the occasion, Khalid said that sports along with studies play important role in helping student establish a strong character.

He added that Olympic and Asian Games torches travel to all participating countries and this national games torch also has the same important message of Olympic Movement and is a symbol of unity and friendship.

He congratulated College’s Vice Chancellor Professor Doctor Bushra Mirza, Principal Mahrukh Bukhari and Humaira Mughal for having the honor to host the national games torch.
