KOHAT: Deputy commissioner Matiullah Khan has banned all kinds of construction work near the imambargahs and along the mourners’ routes till the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), which is falling on next Sunday.

A notification issued here on Wednesday said there would be a strict ban on the use of loudspeakers, wall-chalking, pillion-riding, taking of petrol in bottles and cans, display of weapons and fiery speeches.

The deputy commissioner asked the police to also ban the stay of non-locals in inns and hotels near the imambargahs.

DENGUE PATIENTS: The number of dengue patients has risen to 318 from 260, in one week, mainly reported from Lachi tehsil.

Medical superintendent of KDA teaching hospital, Dr Raheem, told the deputy commissioner during the latter’s visit to the health facility that dengue patients were being kept in the isolation ward and provided with mosquito nets.

He said due to the strike by the doctors the emergency staff was seeing 3,000 patients in three shifts.

PEACE BODIES: Police and public liaison committee members of Jarma have agreed to constitute peace committees to help curb crime.

The decision was taken at an open kutchery. The participants also agreed to establish two extra lock-ups in the police station.

The elders demanded construction of a new police station and increased patrolling in the area.

On the occasion, ASP Saddar circle Danial Ahmed Javed said the purpose of holding such meetings was to get first-hand information about the problems being faced by the people and to resolve them.

DRUG SMUGGLERS JAILED: A local court on Wednesday sent four members of an inter-district gang of drug smugglers and 11 peddlers to jail. They were arrested during the strike and strategic operations.

Meanwhile, the Saddar, city, headquarters and Lachi circles conducted operations under the supervision of SP operations Tahir Iqbal and arrested three illegally residing Afghans and 180 non-locals.

The police also arrested 35 proclaimed offenders and their 19 facilitators and seized weapons from their possession.

The seizure included 13 Kalashnikovs, two kalakovs, nine rifles, 18 shotguns, 116 pistols, 1,800 cartridges, 60 chargers, 54kg hashish, three kg heroin and 41 bottles of liquor.

Meanwhile, the Jarma police saved a woman from attempted rape and arrested two accused.

SHO Irfan Khan said the accused were identified as Ehtesham Khan and Mujahid.
