ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has approved the appointment of Prof Dr Mohammad Mukhtar as Vice Chancellor of first ever National Skill University (NSU), Islamabad.

According to a notification issued by Education Ministry on Oct 18, President, in pursuance of clause 12(1) National Skill University, Islamabad Act, 2018 and being chancellor in terms of clause 8(3), has approved the appointment of Dr Mohammad Mukhtar as Vice Chancellor, National Skill University with immediate effect for a period of four years in terms of clause 12(3) of the NSU, Act 2018.

The act of the university was passed last year. The NSU will be set up at the building of National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISTE) in sector H-8.

“The NISTE is being converted into first ever proper National Skill University,” said an official of the education ministry.

He said the university was first ever skill university, which will likely offer various technical programmes that include building technology and environment, elector technology, mechanical and automotive technology, industries and business, computing and information technology, management and communication studies, basic sciences and humanities and teachers education.

According to NSU Bill, the university will establish its campuses to be determined by its senate.

Earlier, Prof Mukhtar served in various important positions including Vice Chancellor of Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Currently, he is serving as Rector Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education in Karachi.

Officials of education ministry said that people wrongly mixed the name of newly appointed VC of NSU with the former HEC chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed.
