MULTAN: The two-day quarter-finals of the 15th Dawn In Education Spelling Bee Competition began here on Wednesday at the auditorium of La Salle High Secondary School.

A total of 23 teams participated in the nine to 11 years category and 26 teams in the 12 to 14 years age group contest. There were 140 students in both categories.

Winners in both the age groups belonged to the FFC Grammar Higher Secondary School, Sadiqabad, Rahim Yar Khan district.

La Salle Principal Brother Shahzad George Gill inaugurated the ceremony. Addressing the participants, he highlighted the importance of a healthy competition that boosts students’ confidence. He also appreciated the Dawn Media Group for organising such competitions besides encouraging the students to give their best.

Beenish Akhlaque, Kanwal Zaidi, Eram Rana and Amra Shafiq judged the competitions and Tanvir Shah was the pronouncer, while mediator of the activity was Rabeea Salman.

The Dawn Media Group is organising the event in partnership with Muslim Commercial Bank and judges were taken through the Oxford University Press.

The contest between 15 to 17 years age group will be held on Thursday (today).
