KARACHI: The Commissioner Karachi ATF U-14 Super Series tennis championship will be held in Karachi from Nov 10-16 at the Karachi Gymkhana, Deputy Commissioner South Syed Salahuddin, who is also the chairman of the championship committee, announced here on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference at the Commissioner Karachi’s office, Salahuddin said some of the leading Asian players and prominent local players will compete in the prestigious event - which will be held under the auspices of Shamsi Academy.

Giving out the details, he said Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani will inaugurate the championship while chief secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

Many events including boys U-14 and girls U-14 singles and doubles will be contested in the championship in which will organized by the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) in collaboration with the Sindh Tennis Association.

“Pakistan’s Ashar Mir will be the top seed while Kazakhstan’s Khaji Murad will be the second seed. All players will be extended best facilities while outstation players will be provided boarding and lodging and daily allowance,” he said.

DC South appealed to the print and electronic media to give good coverage to the championship which, he said, will send a positive image of the city and the country. He thanked the Karachi Gymkhana Administration and DIG Sharjeel Kharal for

ensuring support and security arrangements for the players during the event.

Chief organiser Khalid Shamsi also spoke on the occasion and said the championship will be a big boost for the metropolis and exciting matches will be played.

Also present were Assistant Commissioner Fatima Bashir, coordinator Ghulam Mohammad, PTF vice-presidents Gulzar Feroze and Khalid Rehmani, Azmatullah Khan, media coordinator Mohammad Arshad and Nadeem Maazji.
