KARACHI: Two young sanitation workers died apparently after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning a sewage line in Shah Latif Town on Friday afternoon, said Edhi Foundation and hospital officials.

They added that the men were cleaning a gutter line in Sector 19-B of Shah Latif Town off National Highway when they fell unconscious.

They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival, said JPMC head Dr Seemin Jamali.

The bodies were taken to mortuary to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

The deceased were identified as Sohail Irshad and Anub.

It is mostly seen in the city that sanitation workers clean sewage lines without having any safety equipment.
