HYDERABAD, Aug 7: The Hala police on Saturday registered a case against former district nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman and some Awam Dost Panel candidates for bringing out a procession in Hala, violating the elections code of conduct, on Friday.

The case was registered under sections 147, 149, 153 and 504, PPC, on a complaint of ASI Syed Faiz Ali Shah. However, the head munshi of the police station denied registration of the case.

Those booked included Dr Rafiquzzaman, ADP candidates Syed Ali Mohammad Shah, Raees Nooral Nizamani, Ahsan Arbab and Ahmad Ali, Riaz Memon, Rafiq Memon and a manager of Dr Rafiquzzaman, Faqir Ali Hussain.

Dr Rafiquzzaman said he had a copy of the FIR registered on directives of high-ups. He said it appeared to be the beginning of his victimization because the chief minister had already ordered an inquiry against him in an HDA plot case. He said he was ready to face any inquiry and added that he would not seek bail before arrest and police were free to arrest him.

DPO Arib Mahar also confirmed registration of the FIR, saying the case had been registered against the accused for violating the elections code of conduct.

Former Zair Pir union council nazim Syed Ali Mohammad Shah said ever since his refusal to meet the chief minister, the Matiari DPO had been targeting him although he was in Karachi on Friday.
